As the resources on this website have grown over time, it has become necessary to practice what I preach and do more information and content management on the site itself. It has grown in content to the point where it really needs an internal search engine and you will be pleased to know that we now have the famous Google.com engine on this site providing both internal site and WWW search capabilities. It is accessible from the Welcome/Home Page. Thus, if you don't have a particular title or author you are looking for, try doing a subject search using the Google search engine on the contents of this site. Remember, when using the search engine that you may wish to use multiple spellings for words that are spelled differently in different parts of the English-speaking world: thus if you are interested in organization, make your search <organization OR organisation>. Similarly, use both forms of words often hyphenated, e.g., <recordkeeping OR record-keeping>, <macroappraisal OR macro-appraisal>. You may get more hits that way.
To aid visitors in working this site, I have created several categories where new items are placed. Nearly all documents will have a permanent home category, but will also be on the New@ Mybestdocs page for a short time as well, usually until the next site update is announced. Below is a description of what items will be found in each category on the website. Visitors should never hesitate to contact me with questions on the site design.
Website TOC/Index
The Website Table of Contents is located in the left margin of the Welcome/Home Page and contains the following items which are linked to the appropriate content pages or sections: Translation Services; Welcome/Home; New Since Last Update (aka NEW ITEMS); News & Media; Guest Authors; About Rick
TRANSLATION SERVICES: This is a new service being tested on an experimental basis. Its purpose is to provide language translation into eight languages for viewers who are not fluent in English. Because of the newness of this technology, it may not be adequate yet to meet the needs of a professional literature site such as this. For this reason, this service may be discontinued following a trial period. Comments are welcome.
WELCOME/HOME PAGE: This is the Home Page for this website and where the Google search engine is located to search this site or the WWW more broadly.
FINDING THINGS ON THIS WEBSITE: This page.
NEW THIS UPDATE SECTION:
This section (also simply "NEW ITEMS" on the WELCOME/HOME PAGE) is the fastest read of what is new on the site. It was created for the benefit of regular visitors so they can easily determine what has been added to the site since the last Update Announcement that is sent out to numerous international professional discussion lists. This is to minimize the time readers have to spend to searching for new materials. To further simplify discovery of new items, "In A Nutshell," has been added to this section and is organized at three levels of detail: a simple listing of all new items by the Sections in which they appear, a very brief description of those items and links to the full items themselves. However, this is a strictly temporary location for new items, each of which also has a more permanent location
Where will I find papers I've seen here earlier once they have been removed from the NEW SINCE LAST UPDATE SECTION? The way this site is designed, nearly all new items (except perhaps ones that are only of interest for a very short time, such as a job posting) are permanently located in one of the other sections described here and are only in the NEW ITEMS/NEW SINCE LAST UPDATE Section only until the next major Update Announcement. At that time, they are deleted from this section and will be found only in their permanent location(s) in other Pages/Sections shown on this page and in the left margin of the Welcome/Home page:
NEWS & MEDIA SECTION: Includes important news items of general professional interest and news and other media items concerning Rick Barry's work. The latter include case examples of Rick's work and articles by others who have interviewed Rick and some Barry Associates news announcements. The NEWS & MEDIA Section should not be confused with the NEW SINCE LAST UPDATE (or New) Section.
ABOUT RICK PAGE: Contains Rick Barry's bio.
RECENT PAPERS SECTION: Contains paper by Rick Barry published in the past two years. Thereafter, they will be moved permanently to the OTHER PAPERS Section. Some papers may also appear in one of the HOT TOPICS sections.
OTHER PAPERS SECTION: Contains papers by Rick Barry that are older than two years. Some oldies, but still some "goodies".
ENGAGEMENTS PAGE: includes a calendar of speaking/workshop (not consulting) engagements and contacts for each
PUBLICATIONS PAGE: Contains a listing of Rick Barry's publications (not always as up to date as it should be).
GUEST AUTHORS SECTION: Not to be confused with the GUEST BOOK (see below), this Section includes important papers by numerous other authors, listed alphabetically.
HOT TOPICS SECTION: Papers by Rick Barry and other authors that are germane to a number of current hot topic area, including many papers that will not be found in the GUEST AUTHORS section. Current HOT TOPICS include:
911-411 E-Com/Email Ethics |
Digital Preservation |
As Content Manager for this site, I am always interested to learn about readers interests in the relevance of the current Hot Topics and other areas that they would like to see covered in this section. Other Hot Topics sections being contemplated are "Personal Electronic Records" and "Local Government". The main thing holding back adding these sections is the lack of sufficient papers to warrant separate sections.
SPECIAL RESOURCES SECTION: This is a place for documents and other resources that are of special interest but do not fit into other categories, including guidelines, links to links, etc.
GUEST BOOK PAGE: Not to be confused with the GUEST AUTHORS SECTION (see above), this is a voluntary Guest Book that visitors may sign if they wish, and visitors are invited to do so. It is a good way to learn how others are using the site, and visitors may run into old friends here. This is the only manner in which personal information is collected by Barry Associates on the site, and the information is never provided by Barry Associates to other entities. It is also an alternative way for providing feedback on the site. Barry Associates reserves the right to remove entries without explanation or notification. This will be done mainly in cases where SPAM engines have placed advertising or offensive statements or links in the Book.
CONTACT RICK: This is an icon that will open an email envelope for visitors wishing to contact Rick Barry.
HAPPY SURFING!!! RB.
